The pdfMAGS questionnaire has been answered by Richard Seabrooke from CANDY Magazine.
CANDY is an independently produced pdf magazine dedicated to showcasing exceptional creative talent from across the globe.
Initially it started as a way of showing the world the quality of Irish creatives as nothing quite existed that did this internationally. I knew that if I got great original international content that would help getting more people to download it and over the course of the issues it¹s become more about showing off great people regardless of location.
I publish it from my fulltime jobs offices in Dublin. 9am 5.30pm I¹m creative director at design company Dynamo http://www.dynamo.ie and CANDY and all our other projects happen in my spare time in the evenings and weekends. Although compiled and designed by me I get a lot of help from many others who make up the CANDYCOLLECTIVE http://www.candycollective.com and without them and their efforts it wouldn¹t be half as good as we hope it is.
CANDY magazine and all our projects are for everyone who has an interest in great creativity and what makes it so. I¹m not really interested in producing a magazine or projects for a limited group of people within a certain sector, the more people who see how great and vibrant the world around us is the better. We¹ve been 2 years in existence and over the course of this time we have gained a lot of exposure for many people and this has lead to many getting commissioned.
WHAT MAKES CANDY DIFFERENT?
We¹re wholely independent and always will be. We will never rely on advertising or money to make it happen, hopefully that will come eventually but it won¹t stop us doing what we do. We approach everything from the aspect of the creative, we hope we have created something really special that people enjoy and hope that it continues for many years to come.
PDF ONLY/ AND PRINT: At the moment we are pdf only but we have been in talks with publishers about doing some print based CANDY projects.
FREQUENCY: The magazine will only ever be published 4 times a year but we have plans for some other brother and sister magazines for different interests.
LANGUAGE(S): English only at the moment.
EXTRA CONTENT ON WEBSITE: Other projects we produce gets featured on the website including our ongoing collaborations and information on SweetTalk, our live creative events which feature relaxed social live presentations by exceptional creatives. As of this Autumn we¹re produced nearly 30 of these in Ireland, UK, Germany, Denmark, USA & Brazil. We¹re also due to overhaul the site very soon to add lots more information on us, our projects and our friends so stay tuned.
SOMETHING ELSE YOU WILL SAY OR SOMETHING I HAVE FORGOTTEN: Not really at the moment.
Thank you, Richard.
